Abstract
The return to Martín Fierro is a constant in Argentine literature. In this text we will work on two specific rewritings of the classic by José Hernández that were written in the 2010s: Las aventuras de la China Iron (2017), by Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, and El guacho Martín Fierro (2011), by Oscar Fariña. Both allow a series to be read from a constant, that is, they can be read as interventions in the national tradition from an element that in itself drags a dispute: the definition of the limits of the town, the mystical body of the Nation. Being considered as a symbolic supplement that is applied to the population, the town, as a space of dispute, is a constitutive part of contemporary debates. The classic of the Argentine Nation constitutes a textuality whose rewriting, in the cases worked, opens a dissent around the limits and scope of that key signifier. And there a dispute is played for the construction of the common. This dispute is central in the considered texts.
